A guy at the hardware store in Boise told me fake owls are useless, but my dad swears by them, so which is it?
I ran into a guy at the Ace on State Street in Boise about 10 days ago while I was grabbing a new roll of bird tape. He saw me holding it and laughed, then told me those plastic owls on his porch never did a thing and he still gets robins slamming his slider every spring. My dad has had the same owl on his front window since 2019 and swears he has not had a single hit since, so I honestly do not know what to believe. I get that one guy in a store is not a real test, but it made me wonder if the owl thing is totally place based, like maybe it works in some yards and not others depending on what birds you get. I have tried the dots and they cut my hits from about 5 a season down to 1, so I am not trying to mess with a good setup, but I want to know if anyone has tracked owl results over a full year or two. Is it the owl itself or is it that my dad just has fewer birds around his place? What did you actually see at your house after you put one up, and did it ever stop working after a while?
