Vent: I spent $80 on a streaming service just to watch one show and I'm torn

I really wanted to watch that new sci-fi series everyone's talking about, but it's only on that one premium service. I paid the $80 for a full year upfront thinking I'd find other stuff to watch. The show was amazing, but now my subscription is just sitting there unused. Part of me feels it was worth every penny for that one binge, but another part thinks I got burned paying for a whole year of nothing. Has anyone else done this for a single must-see series?

Been there, done that, got the unused subscription to prove it. Treat it like a really expensive movie ticket and move on. At least you didn't pay for a theater seat and get stuck watching a bad film. The math hurts, but that one great show is still yours forever. My advice is to set a calendar reminder for eleven months from now to actually cancel the thing.

Why is everyone so quick to write off a yearly subscription like it's burning cash? I actually prefer the annual plan because it forces me to commit to something. @paul233, you mentioned setting renewal dates to the first of the month, but that still leaves room to forget. With a yearly payment, I have a whole year to actually use the service, not just a month to cram in some shows. The per-month cost is usually way lower too, so even if I miss a few months, I'm still ahead compared to monthly. Plus, that reminder trick leet32 mentioned works both ways - you can check if you actually want to keep it or if you've gotten your money's worth.
