Started a show with a huge cast and got totally lost for a week

I decided to watch a political drama with like twenty main characters. I kept mixing up who was who and what side they were on. I had to keep going back to episode one to check the opening credits, which added a whole extra week to my binge. Has anyone else had a show that needed a spreadsheet to follow?

Man I used to be one of those people who rolled their eyes at spreadsheets for TV shows. Like just watch the thing and figure it out, right? But then I tried to follow The Wire for the first time and completely gave up after two episodes because I had no clue who was a cop and who was a dealer. @terryr46 totally called it when he said some shows need a system. I finally sat down with a notebook and wrote out every character's name, their job, and who they worked with. Made the whole thing click for me. So yeah I get it now, spreadsheets are the difference between enjoying a good story and being totally lost in the weeds.

Just curious, @brooke484, what kind of stuff makes you want to avoid a show right away? Is it a certain actor, or a type of story that always lets you down? Knowing that might help more than just a title, because a show one person hates could be fine for someone else.
