My sister in Portland said she only watches shows twice, once alone and once with people, and it got me thinking
We were on the phone last Tuesday and she mentioned she rewatched all of The Bear season 2 three times before letting her husband watch it with her. She swears the first watch is for the plot and the second is for all the small stuff you miss, like the kitchen background noise. I think that's a wild way to burn 20 hours, but she says it's the only way she actually remembers a show. So is rewatch culture ruining the first time through, or is she onto something? Curious how many of you do a solo run before sharing a show with someone.
Feels like a lot of overthinking to me. I watched all of The Bear season 2 in one weekend with my wife and we were both yelling at the TV during that family dinner episode, that shared freakout was half the fun. Saving a show so you can study the kitchen background noise on watch two sounds more like homework than hanging out. If I tried that, I'd just end up not caring by the second time through because I already know every beat. Some shows are worth a rewatch later, sure, but making it a rule before you share it with anyone kind of kills the whole point of watching something together.
