I tried watching a show from the 'skip intro' button and it backfired

I started watching this new sci-fi series and decided to skip the intro every time to save a few minutes. After six episodes, I realized I had no idea what the main character's name was or what the opening theme sounded like. The intro actually had quick flashes of backstory I completely missed. Now I feel disconnected from the show and might have to rewatch those first episodes. Has anyone else ruined their own immersion by skipping too much?

The intro is part of the show's world building.

My buddy got so into the intro for this one show, he started making his own fake opening credits for his boring office job. He said it made his commute feel like an episode building up to something big. It completely changed how he saw the whole show, like the intro was the key to the whole thing. He's convinced those first few minutes are the most important part of the story now.

Totally! It's like the intro sets the whole mood and tone for everything else to follow.
