I thought The Leftovers was just sad people being sad until I finished season 1
Everyone kept telling me to stick with it, so I finally gave in last month. The moment Kevin dug that grave in his backyard, I realized there was way more going on than just grief porn. Has anyone else had a show flip on them like that after a rough start?

My coworker almost quit The Americans after three episodes, thought it was just another boring spy show. She only kept going because her husband promised to watch her trashy reality shows in return. By season 2, she was staying up till 2am binging it alone, texting me about how wrong she was about the whole thing.

You ever have one of those shows where you're basically hate-watching for the first few episodes? That was me with The Leftovers too. I remember thinking "this is just people staring off into space to sad music" but then around episode 5 or 6 when the whole Guilty Remnant thing clicked, I felt like an idiot for nearly missing out. The grave digging scene was my moment too, that's when I realized the show was building something bigger than just moody shots. Now I tell everyone to treat season 1 like a really long setup, because the payoff is worth sitting through the confusing parts.
