I finally tried to watch 'Dark' after hearing the hype for years

It took me three separate attempts over a month to get past the first few episodes because the subtitles and complex timeline were so demanding. Has anyone else struggled with a show that was totally worth the initial effort?

Totally get that with Dark. Had the same thing with The Wire. Could not follow the cop slang and all the characters for like four episodes, felt lost. Stuck with it because my friend would not shut up, and by season two it was my favorite show ever.

Yeah, that first season of The Wire is basically a long setup where you're just learning a new language. You don't even know who to pay attention to until it all clicks. Then you realize every single scene, even the boring ones, matter later. It rewards you for paying that initial price of feeling totally lost.

Same thing happened to me with Deadwood. First couple episodes I had no clue what anyone was talking about, all that old west slang and fancy talk. My buddy kept saying just watch it with subtitles, so I did. By the time the fourth or fifth episode rolled around I was hooked. Now I tell everyone the same thing when they start it, just turn on the captions and trust it, you'll catch the rhythm after a bit.
