Had a weird moment watching Dark last night that made me rethink how I binge shows

I was about 6 episodes into Dark season 2 and realized I had no clue what was going on. I kept pausing to look up character names online and trying to track the timelines. Honestly, I was spending more time reading recaps than actually watching. Then my friend told me to just turn on the subtitles and stop overthinking it. Now I just let the show flow and trust the story to explain itself. Has anyone else had that point where you had to unlearn your normal binge habits just to enjoy a complex show?

Totally dumped my usual way of watching with shows like Dark too. Swear I spent whole episodes just staring at the family tree on Google instead of the actual scenes. Subtitles were a game changer for me (and honestly just accepting I'd miss some stuff on the first watch).

You used to think differently but this changed your mind. Honestly, that's exactly where I was a few years ago. I had this stubborn idea that subtitles were distracting and that looking things up online was cheating somehow, like I was failing at watching TV. Then I borrowed a buddy's stream of a complicated sci-fi show and realized I had to use both or I'd be completely lost. Now I'm the opposite, I almost prefer having notes pulled up on my phone during a slow episode. It actually makes the experience better because I'm following along instead of just nodding along confused.
