DAE get totally lost trying to find a show that actually hooks you?

I sat down yesterday with my tablet, ready to dive into something new... but after scrolling through Hulu and Prime for like an hour, nothing clicked. All the descriptions sound the same, you know? ‘A gripping tale of secrets and betrayal’... it’s like every show is a copy of the last one I watched. I even tried those ‘watch it if you liked’ lists, but they just point me back to stuff I’ve already seen. Ended up starting three different pilots and quitting each after ten minutes... what a waste of time. It feels like the fun of discovering a great series is just gone. How do you guys find the good ones when everything seems so bland? I’m about to just go back to my comfort rewatches again...

Oh man, tell me about it. I swear my algorithm is broken or maybe I just have terrible taste now. Last night I spent forty minutes watching the first half of a documentary about the history of tax law before I even realized what was happening. That’s how desperate I got. It suggested it because I watched a true crime thing last week, I guess? The connections make no sense. I even clicked on a show about competitive knitting because the thumbnail was bright yellow. My brain is so fried from scrolling that a knitting competition seemed like a viable option. I’m clearly not to be trusted.

Thought those 'if you liked' lists were helpful, but after endless scrolling, I see they're not. @willowc60's tax law documentary adventure proves how hit or miss it is. I've started ignoring algorithms and just asking people what they're into.

Forty minutes of tax law history before you even noticed? That's the exact moment you know the algorithm has fully broken your brain. It's like the apps want us to just give up and accept whatever nonsense they throw at the wall. I got suggested a three hour video on concrete drying because I watched a home renovation clip. You start watching just to see how bad it is, and next thing you know you're arguing with someone online about the best aggregate mix for a driveway.
