Bailed on my second watch of a show after comparing it to the book, and the show lost bad

I used to think the adaptation was fine until I rewatched Sharp Objects after reading the novel, and the pacing felt like a completely different story once I knew what the ending was actually about, so now I'm wondering if anyone else finds the book version makes the show unwatchable or if I just ruined it for myself?

Books always win. Show was fine before you knew better.

Did the same thing with Game of Thrones, read the books after season 3 and honestly it ruined the show for me. Every tiny detail I noticed felt like a slap in the face. But here's the thing, I started treating them as two separate stories and it helped a lot. Like the books are the full meal and the show is just the appetizer sampler. You gotta lower your expectations for what they cut out and just enjoy what they did keep. Once I did that, I could watch both again without getting mad.
