After bingeing three shows back-to-back, I spotted a common theme

I like making watchlists for my friends based on genres. Last week, I focused on sci-fi mysteries for a buddy. All three shows had a big twist in the third episode. It got me thinking about how shows are built for marathon viewing. Now I keep seeing this pattern everywhere.

Wow, I read something about how streaming shows are written to make you click "next episode." They totally front-load big twists early on to hook you fast. It explains why so many shows feel samey now.

Ugh, it's so true. They all feel like they use the same playbook now. Shows like Stranger Things and even Black Mirror drop a huge reveal by episode three to lock you in. It makes everything feel predictable. I miss when a story could just build slowly.

The pilot for Lost in 2004 spent 44 minutes just on character setup before the monster showed up. Ward.piper is right about the clickbait structure, but it's also about data. They know most viewers drop off by episode 4 if they're not hooked, so they burn the big plot point early.
