Rain hit me at the worst intersection, now I carry a trash bag trick

Got caught in a downpour at the 4th and Main light last Tuesday, soaked through before I even hit the overpass. Now I keep a folded trash bag in my saddlebag and shove it over my backpack when clouds roll in. Anyone else got a quick emergency cover that doesn't take up space?
