Question about my chain after 3 weeks of rain commuting in Portland
I switched from a dry lube to a $9 bottle of wet lube on my 12 mile round trip and my chain went from sounding like a bag of rocks to dead quiet in about 4 days, so what are you all running when it rains 5 days straight?
Went through the same thing last winter and it flipped my whole view on wet lube. I used to be a dry lube guy all year because I hated how wet stuff turned into black sludge on the chain and pulled in grit. Then we got two solid weeks of rain and my drivetrain sounded like it was chewing gravel, so I finally caved and bought a cheap bottle of wet lube like you did. Within a few rides it went quiet and stayed quiet, even after back to back rainy days. The black gunk is real but I just wipe the chain down after wet rides and it never gets bad. Now I keep dry lube for summer and wet lube for the rainy months and stop trying to make one product do both jobs.
