I finally checked my actual commute time on a bike computer, and the "fast route" I brag about is a lie
I got a cheap bike computer about 2 months back and started logging my rides to the hospital at 10:30 p.m. The route everyone in my building swears by, the one along the main road with the bike lane, is 4.1 miles and I figured it was the quick one. Turns out my average speed on it is only 11.2 mph because of all the stop lights and driveways, so it takes me 22 minutes. The longer way through the park and past the old rail yard is 5.3 miles but I hold 15 mph the whole time and get there in 21 minutes, plus I show up way less annoyed. I argued with a coworker for a year that the main road was faster, and I was just plain wrong. Anybody else get humbled by a speed log on a route they thought they knew cold?
