I called bike commuting in the rain stupid for 3 years, then I bought a $12 poncho
For three years I drove my car every time the forecast showed rain because I figured getting soaked before work was just dumb. Last October my car died and I had no choice, so I grabbed a cheap poncho at the hardware store on my way out the door. The thing covers my handlebars and my legs, and I show up dry while my coworkers who drive spend 20 minutes hunting for parking downtown. I still hate the first five blocks when it's really coming down, but honestly the rain was never the problem I made it out to be. What's your setup for wet days, do you mess with fenders or just accept wet socks?
Wrote off rain riding for years too, swore it was miserable without even trying it. Bought a cheap rain jacket last spring and honestly the wet socks thing barely happens if you just wear wool. No fenders here, just soggy shoes and a good attitude I guess.
