I blew $60 on a waterproof phone pouch and it fogged up on my first wet ride to work
I grabbed a $60 waterproof phone pouch at the shop on 4th because everyone here keeps saying to keep your phone on the bars, and after one rainy ride to work the inside was fogged and my screen wouldn't read my finger through it. A cheap ziplock bag in my jacket pocket did the same job for a fraction of the cost, so I'm done trying to deal with a touchscreen through plastic while riding in traffic. Anyone got a setup that actually works when it's raining, or do you all just leave the phone in a pocket and stop to check it?
Man, the fogging thing is real and it gets worse if you seal the pouch while it's warm out. What worked for me was skipping the pouch and putting the phone in my jersey pocket in a ziplock with the air squeezed out, then just pulling over under a bridge or at a light to check it. The fog comes from trapped moist air, so a bag you can press flat beats a hard pouch every time. Takes ten extra seconds at a stop but you keep your screen and your sixty bucks.
