Found a secret route through an alley in Austin that cuts my commute by 8 minutes

Last Tuesday I was running late so I took a random turn into an alley behind a coffee shop on 6th Street. Turns out it connects through to a bike path that runs parallel to the main road. I timed it and I shaved off exactly 8 minutes of stop-and-go traffic. Now I use it every day and never have to deal with that one angry driver who honks at me. Anyone else find a hidden shortcut like this in their town?

Oh man, that's a great find! I had a similar thing happen in my neighborhood in Austin - there's this old gravel cut-through behind a pump station that links two subdivisions. Saves me 5 minutes easy and the bonus is you go past this little pond where I've seen herons hanging out sometimes. The city probably forgot it even exists.

Check with your utility company first though. They might own that easement.
