Finally gave in and tried fenders after 4 rainy commutes

I always thought fenders were for old guys with cruising bikes, not someone hauling a laptop on a road bike. Then last month I hit a puddle on Broadway and got a stripe of gutter water up my back that soaked through two layers. Three more wet mornings and my backpack smelled like a swamp, so I dropped $35 on clip-ons. Honestly, game changer. The bike looks a bit dorkier but my dry pants and dry laptop make up for it. Anyone else hold out on fenders for way too long?

Jumped on that bandwagon myself last spring after one too many soaked socks on my morning ride... I ride an old steel frame and thought the same thing, fenders were for someone else, not me. But I got a set of those cheap plastic ones and honestly the first dry commute felt like I was cheating the system somehow. Now I can't imagine going back, even if the bike looks like it's wearing galoshes. My bag stays dry, my back stays dry, and I don't have to sniff-test my jacket at work anymore. Worth every bit of dorkiness if you ask me.
