Used to swear by wet lube in winter, finally switched to wax after a chain snapped in 18 degree weather last February.
Took a mechanic in Burlington telling me wet lube just traps grit in salt slush to get me to try a wax drip. What convinced you guys to change your lube routine?

My buddy lost a derailleur to wax when a 10 degree morning turned the drip wax into brittle shards that just flaked off. Wet lube may be messy but it stays flexible and actually cushions the chain against shock loads in the cold. Did you ever test wax below 15 degrees before making the switch?

Paint me skeptical that it was the temp and not just cheap wax or bad prep. Sounds like your buddy needs to try wet lube and see if that "cushioning" keeps his chain from snapping off in the dry summer.
