The guy who insisted on greasing every pedal thread

Overheard a customer at the shop telling his friend you have to grease pedal threads every single time or they'll seize. That's a good way to wreck your cranks if you don't clean all the old stuff off. I took away that people still can't tell the difference between anti-seize and regular grease for different parts.

So "a shortcut to cracked crank arms"? I gotta call that one. I've seen people glob on way too much grease and sure, that's dumb. But a light film? I've been doing that for years on different bikes and never had a crank crack. Maybe if you're torquing it down with an impact wrench or something, but a normal person with a pedal wrench? Probably fine.

Grease on pedal threads is a shortcut to cracked crank arms. Anti-seize or nothing, and even then just a tiny dab.
