The bike shop in Salina that had 47 front wheels but no rear ones

I stopped at a shop in Salina, Kansas last weekend while riding through. Walked in and noticed a wall of front wheels hanging up, at least 40 of them. Asked the owner if he had any 700c rear wheels in stock. He laughed and said 'got 47 fronts, maybe 3 rears, and two of those are spoke soup.' Turns out a local racer bought every rear wheel he had six months ago for a team build. I spent 20 minutes digging through a bin of used hubs instead. Has anyone else run into a shop with a weird inventory imbalance like that?

Man that sucks but I've seen weirder. One shop near me had like 50+ sets of old steel rims but maybe 3 modern disc wheels. Took me forever to find a 26 inch rim brake wheel there.

@iris394 why would a racer need a deposit for parts he already paid for?

Did you check if that racer left a deposit on those rears or just walked out?
