The 4-month-old cable housing on my shop bike looked like garbage today
I pulled my commuter out of the stand and noticed the shift cable housing had this weird white crust all over it near the ferrules. It was fine back in April when I installed it, so I figured it was just dirt. I wiped it down and it turned out the outer liner had started to corrode, probably from all the road salt we get here in Minneapolis. The shifting felt okay, but the housing was stiff and cracked in a few spots. I ended up swapping it for a lined stainless set, but has anyone else seen housing go bad that fast just from winter riding?
