Rant: stop torquing the crank bolts with the arms in place

I see it all the time at the shop. People crank down on a left arm while the right one is still on the spindle. Then they wonder why the interface keeps creaking. Last week a guy brought in a carbon crank with burrs from that exact mistake. I had to pull the whole setup and file the splines. Why not torque both arms off the bike or at least follow the two-step pattern? Has anyone else had to repair damage from this?
