Got called out for skipping cable ends and had to rethink my whole routine

A customer came back after 3 weeks complaining about frayed cables on their road bike. I figured a clean cut was enough but that guy showed me three spots where the housing was already splitting. Has anyone else dealt with that kind of feedback and switched to using ferrules on every single cable?

Made the same mistake years ago on my own bike (a beat up touring rig). Ferrules are cheap insurance - they keep the housing end from mushrooming out when you're leaning into a hard turn. I switched to using them on brake and shift cables both, and it cut down on that fraying problem completely. Also started lightly greasing the ferrule inside before sliding it on, helps it seat better without binding up the cable.

Did my buddy learn this the hard way too after his shifter housing split on a rainy century ride, @perez.barbara?
