A customer's one comment changed how I lube chains forever

Last tuesday a guy watched me wipe a chain down and said 'you're cleaning it like a dish, not a drivetrain,' so I stopped degreasing every single time. Now I just wipe, lube, and let it settle, and my own ride shifts smoother after 200 miles. Anyone else get basic advice that made you ditch a whole process you thought was required?
