Rant: My barber said the average person loses 50 to 100 hairs a day and I spent a week counting mine
I was sitting in the chair at my usual spot in Boise last Tuesday and my barber mentioned offhand that losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is totally normal. I did not believe him so I started actually counting the hairs on my pillow and in the shower drain for a week. Day one I got 34, day three I got 61, and by Saturday I was up to 78 because I washed my hair that morning. Turns out he was right and I had been stressing myself out for nothing. The thing that got me was that he said most people freak out over shedding in the fall, but it is usually just seasonal and not actual hair loss. He also told me pulling your hair back tight every day can cause way more damage than normal shedding ever will. Now I am curious how many of you actually pay attention to how much you shed, or am I the only one who went down this rabbit hole?
