Showerthought: a guy at Ocean Beach told me to grab the small stuff first and my bag weight jumped 40%
Last Saturday at Ocean Beach in SF this older dude named Ray watched me spend 20 minutes chasing a big chunk of foam board around the sand. He said I had it backwards, that the little stuff, the cigarette butts and bottle caps and tiny bits of styrofoam, weighs more per minute and gets missed way more often. I tried it for the last hour of the cleanup and my bag went from 6 pounds to almost 9 pounds using the same amount of time. So he was dead on, and now I start every sweep with the small stuff and work up to the big pieces. Has anyone else noticed their total weight go way up just from changing the order they pick?
