My grabber snapped 20 minutes into a cleanup at Ocean Beach and I finished with my hands
Went out last Saturday morning for a 2 hour shift near the pier and the claw on my $12 grabber just gave out on a wet sock. Spent the rest of the time hunched over picking up bottle caps and straws barehanded (got a nice cut on my thumb from a can lid). Anyone got a brand that actually holds up to wet sand, or should I just bring a backup pair of gloves instead?
Grabbed one of those cheap extendable ones from the hardware store years ago and it snapped the same way, wet sand just kills the hinge. I switched to a picker with a metal trigger and thicker jaws, think it was an Unger, and it's lasted two seasons of beach cleanups. Bring gloves no matter what, the cut from that can lid is the real lesson here. Wet sand gets into every joint so rinse it out with fresh water after each trip or it'll rust up solid.
