Discovered the wet glove trick after a rainy cleanup at Ocean Beach

Last Saturday we got dumped on during the Ocean Beach cleanup and my gloves were soaked through with sand sticking to everything. I remembered someone saying to wet your hands before putting on nitrile gloves under your work gloves, so I tried it. The wet layer keeps the sand from grinding against your skin and the gloves slip on way easier. Now I always keep a small water bottle in my bucket just for that. Has anyone else tried this or do you have a better way to handle wet weather cleanups?

Whoa, that's a solid tip! I've never tried the wet glove thing, but it reminds me of when I tried to wear those cheap dollar store gloves during a downpour at a park pickup. The water got in somehow and my hands looked like prunes by the end. I ended up just taking the gloves off and picking up trash barehanded with a grabber stick, which worked fine until I grabbed a mystery bag that had something super sharp in it. Now I just bring two pairs of socks for my hands under the gloves, sounds weird but it absorbs the moisture. Probably not as good as your trick, but hey, it worked for me that one time.

Honestly I always figured the moisture was just something you had to put up with in the rain, never thought of using the wetness to your advantage. This makes a lot more sense than my old trick of just stuffing extra socks in my pockets and hoping for the best. Might have to give it a go next time the forecast looks rough.
