PSA: My monitor arm ripped out of the desk at 2am and I heard the crash from bed
I mounted a dual monitor arm to my cheap IKEA desk about 8 months ago and never used a backing plate, just screwed it straight into the particle board. Tuesday night around 2am I heard a huge crash and ran in to find both monitors face down on the floor with a chunk of the desk still attached to the clamp. One screen is toast and the other has a weird line down the side. If you're clamping anything heavy to a hollow desk, get a steel plate under it or drill through to a solid leg, because that particle board gave out way faster than I expected. Anyone got a desk setup that actually holds a dual arm without flexing?
