My $40 monitor riser was a total disaster

I bought this cheap glass riser off Amazon thinking it would look clean on my desk. After about 2 weeks, the glass just cracked down the middle for no reason. My second monitor almost took a dive onto my keyboard. Should I just go with a wooden riser now or are the metal ones actually sturdy enough?

40 bucks for a glass riser? That's INSANE. I can't believe they charged that much for something that broke in two weeks. I got a basic metal one from a local office supply place for like 25 bucks and it's been solid for over a year. Glass is just asking for trouble, especially if you bump your desk even a little. Metal ones are definitely sturdy enough, just make sure the feet have some rubber grips so it doesn't slide around. Wood looks nice too but you gotta seal it right or it'll warp if you spill anything.

I guess it depends on how much you bump your desk. I've had a glass riser for like three years now and it's still fine, I don't really move my monitors around much. Metal ones are fine too, sure, but they can look a little cheap if you're going for a clean setup. The rubber feet thing is a good tip though, that's what keeps my glass one from sliding everywhere. Maybe people are just harder on their stuff than they think.
