I spent 3 hours trying to fix a monitor arm that just needed a different screw

Got stuck on a gas spring arm that wouldn't hold my screen level for 45 minutes of fiddling. Turns out the bolt size (M4 versus M6) was the issue, not the tension knob. Has anyone else wasted an afternoon on something that simple?

My buddy spent two hours cursing his monitor arm before realizing he forgot to take the plastic cap off the screw.

Man, I swear those things are designed to make you feel stupid on purpose... I read somewhere that some manufacturers ship their arms with thread locker already applied, so you're cranking on the wrong screw while the real one is just glued in place.
