Dropped $180 on RGB light strips that made my setup look worse, here is what I wish I knew
Last month I grabbed two 16 foot Govee RGBIC strips for $180 total and wrapped them behind my dual monitor mount and desk shelf. The problem is my monitors already throw a lot of light, so the strips just made the wall look splotchy and the colors clashed with my screen. I ended up returning one and moving the other under the desk. Has anyone found a cheap light setup that actually helps with eye strain at night or should I just get a desk lamp?
Did you ever try putting the strip behind the monitor itself instead of on the wall? That is the move people miss. Bias lighting works because the glow comes from right behind the screen, so your eyes have something soft to land on instead of jumping from bright screen to dark wall. When you stick the lights on the wall behind the desk, you just get blotchy color and glare, which is exactly what happened to you. Tape one strip to the back of each monitor, set it to a warm white around 6500k, and keep the brightness low, like 10 to 20 percent. It kills the eye strain at night way better than a desk lamp because the lamp puts light in your face while this just softens the contrast.
