Debate: Should I have rebuilt my PC rig or bought a prebuilt after that power surge?
Last month I had a power surge hit my battlestation in Austin... killed my PSU and fried my old GTX 1070. I spent $400 on a new PSU and a used 3060, but then I saw prebuilts with similar specs for like $900 at Micro Center. Did I waste money rebuilding, or is the custom setup worth the hassle? What's your call on this... build vs buy when something breaks?

Prebuilts are actually the smarter move here since you can get a full system warranty that covers surge damage. Building your own rig just means you're on the hook for every fried component next time.

Yeah the "full system warranty" really came in clutch when my buddy's prebuilt power supply went up in smoke and they blamed him for plugging it into a "dirty outlet." Right, because who doesn't love paying extra for a repair that still costs you half the price of a new PC anyway. And honestly, if you're that worried about surges just buy a $30 surge protector instead of living in fear of a warranty that conveniently finds ways to deny claims. Building your own rig means you actually know what's inside it and can fix it yourself without shipping the whole thing back for two months. But hey, you do you, keep paying that "peace of mind" tax.
