Appreciation post: measuring your desk before buying a monitor arm saves real headaches
Last week I watched my buddy mount a dual arm on his desk and the clamp would not fit because his desk edge has a metal frame under it. He had to drive back to Micro Center and swap it for a grommet mount, which meant drilling a 2 inch hole in a $300 desk. I measured my own setup first with a tape and a scrap of cardboard cut to the clamp size, took me 5 minutes. Do you all check clamp depth and frame clearance before you buy, or just eyeball it like he did?

Measure twice, buy once, that part I agree with. But the cardboard trick only works for clamp depth, it does NOT tell you if your desk can handle the weight of a dual arm with two monitors hanging off the back. I had a cheap particle board top that looked fine empty and started bowing within a month once the arms were loaded up. Check the thickness of the top and where the frame runs, because a grommet hole through a hollow core desk is basically a countdown timer. Micro Center runs are annoying but a cracked desk is worse.
