Wishlist trick from a random Steam forum post

Some user on a Steam forum said add every old game to your wishlist and wait. I thought it was nonsense. Tried it with a 2012 RPG I wanted. Three months later it dropped 75 percent during a random midweek sale. Got the notification on my phone. Saved about 18 bucks. Now I do this for anything over 5 dollars. Does this actually work for anyone else or did I just get lucky?
