Vent: blew $60 on a bin of 'untested' PS2 games at a flea market in Tulsa
Seller said they all came from a storage unit and would boot fine, but 7 of the 11 discs were so scratched they wouldn't get past the PlayStation 2 logo. Should've brought my fat PS2 and a small TV like the old days, since testing on the spot is the only thing that saves you. Has anyone found a decent disc buffer that doesn't cost more than the games?
Check the discs under a bright light at an angle before you even hand over cash, because scratches that run in a circle with the spin are usually the killer while ones going across the disc can sometimes still boot. Storage unit sellers almost never test anything, they just see a stack of games and slap a price on it. A cheap trick is to hold the disc up to your phone flashlight, and if light comes through the label side, it's done no matter how much you buff it.
