Update: guy at the flea market booth in Mesquite let me test a $3 Genesis cart before buying, now I do it every time
So about two weeks ago I'm digging through a cardboard box at this guy's booth outside Dallas and he pulls out a loose Sonic 2 cart, sticker half peeled. I ask if it works and he just says pop it in, he's got a little CRT under the table running off a power strip, and he hands me the controller. Game boots up clean, saves work, I hand over three bucks and walk off. Small thing, I know. But before that I'd been burned twice this year on untested carts that turned out to be dead, once at a garage sale in Garland and once from a lot I bought online. Cost me maybe $25 total, but the annoying part was driving back to return them. Now I ask to test anything under $10 before I pay, and most sellers say sure if they've got a setup. Half of them won't, and that tells me plenty too. Anyone got a portable way to test old carts without hauling a whole console around, or do you just roll the dice on cheap lots?
