The $3 clearance bin at a Goodwill in Fresno taught me to check disc conditions before buying
I used to skip clearance games because they always looked scratched but I started holding them up to the light and found 4 out of 6 were actually fine, so now I want to know if anyone else has a quick check they do before buying cheap discs?
Tilt the disc and watch how the light bounces off the shiny side. If the scratches run in the same direction as the data tracks (like little circles), the player skips right over them and they usually play fine. Scratches going across the tracks are the ones that kill you. Also flip it over and check the label side, a crack or pinhole there means the reflective layer is shot no matter how clean the bottom looks lol.
