Just saw a dude on YouTube beat an entire game for free using only demos and browser ports.
It got me thinking about how many old games have free legal versions floating around if you know where to dig, anyone got a list of good demos that actually have a lot of content?

Found a ton of old Doom games that way. The shareware versions of Doom 1 and 2 have a lot of levels and you can play them right in your browser. Also the original Quake has a free demo with like half the first episode included. Command and Conquer Red Alert had a promo disc back in the day that was basically the full game but without the cutscenes. That one is still floating around on abandonware sites. The trick is to search for "shareware" or "demo" plus the game name and add the year. Most of these demos were made before internet was fast so they crammed a shocking amount of stuff into them.

Forget demos, I'm still trying to beat the original Super Mario Bros with a broken NES controller and a prayer.
