Just heard a kid at Gamestop say he only plays games from 2020 onward

Anyone else feel like the older stuff has way more soul than the new releases?

My first console was a hand-me-down N64 with Ocarina of Time already in it. That game still feels more alive to me than half the stuff in the latest PlayStation catalogs. I get that shiny graphics are cool, but there's a certain rough charm to the old pixel art and weird load times that new games just can't recreate. Honestly, I feel bad for that kid missing out on classics like Chrono Trigger or even the original Resident Evil 4. It's like only listening to music from the last few years, you're cutting yourself off from so much history and creativity. Maybe it's just my age showing, but I'd take a 1998 game with heart over a 2024 one with microtransactions any day.

And honestly, @luna_green, that's why I still keep my old consoles hooked up instead of selling them.
