Why does nobody talk about how mint takes over a balcony box?

My neighbor Ines on the 4th floor laughed at me for putting mint in the same box as my basil, then showed me her pot that swallowed a whole tomato plant in 6 weeks. So now I'm trying mint in its own little 8 inch pot, and I'm wondering if anyone here has a plant that spread faster than they expected.
