Warning: I left one cherry tomato on the vine for 10 days and came back to a jungle
I went to my sister's place in Sacramento for 10 days in July and left my two balcony tomato plants alone with just a bottom-watering tray. When I walked out on day one, they were neat little bushes about knee high with maybe 12 green tomatoes between them. When I got back, the cherry tomato plant had grown past the railing, wrapped itself around my drying rack, and I counted 41 ripe tomatoes plus a bird nest in the pot. The regular tomato plant in the same size pot barely moved, maybe 3 new leaves. I think the cherry one just had a bigger root ball and the tray held enough water for it to go wild. Has anyone else had one variety totally take over while the other one just sits there like a lump?
