My whole trellis setup collapsed under the weight of my cucumbers
It happened just two days ago during that heavy rain we got. I had the trellis made from bamboo stakes and garden twine, and the main support snapped clean in half. I had to rush out and prop everything up with some old tomato cages I had in storage. Has anyone found a really strong trellis design that can handle a big vining plant on a windy balcony?

Saw my neighbor's metal A-frame buckle under her squash last year. What material are you thinking of trying next?

Maybe it wasn't the material's fault. That much squash needs a really strong frame, no matter what it's made of. I'd check the design before blaming the metal.

Wasn't bamboo just the worst for that? Mine did the same thing with my beans last season, it just can't take the weight when it gets wet. I'm switching to metal conduit pipes this year.
