My neighbor Rosa said to put eggshells in my tomato pots
She swore it would add calcium and stop blossom end rot, so I crushed up like 20 eggshells and mixed them into my two balcony planters. Three weeks later my tomato leaves started turning yellow and the fruit got all soft and mushy on the bottom. Did I use too many or was the eggshell thing just a myth all along?

Oh man, crushed up eggshells aren't exactly a quick fix for anything (they take forever to break down, like months and months). If you mixed them in fresh they probably just sat there doing nothing while your poor tomatoes got overwatered or starved for actual nutrients. Sounds like Rosa might be repeating some old gardening myths, sorry your plants had to suffer for it.

Ugh I've been there too, it's so frustrating when you follow advice from someone you trust and your plants just give up on you. Hope your tomatoes bounce back next season, that soil probably just needs some good compost.
