My cherry tomatoes doubled in size after I switched pots

I had 3 plants in a 12 inch round pot for 4 months and got maybe 10 tiny tomatoes total. Last week I moved each plant to its own 8 inch deep rectangular planter and now I'm picking 6 or 7 ripe ones every other day. What size pot did you have the best luck with for tomatoes on a small balcony?

Did you change the soil type too or just the pot size?

Kept the same soil actually. Just bumped up to a bigger pot. Roots were getting cramped. Seems happier now with the extra space.
