My basil went from sad to super bushy in just two weeks
I moved it from a small pot to a deeper container (like 10 inches deep) and it just exploded with new leaves. Has anyone else seen a big change after giving herbs more root space?

Yeah, that "exploded with new leaves" thing is real. Basil hates being root bound. I've found the same with mint and oregano. They just stall out in those tiny store pots until you give their roots room to run.

Guess those store pots are like tiny root jails, @the_keith. Break them out and they go wild.

Whoa, I actually used to think the whole "repot immediately" thing was overblown! I figured plants would just adapt eventually. But last month I grabbed a basil from the store and left it in that tiny pot for two weeks. It barely grew. Finally repotted it and bam, new leaves everywhere within like 5 days. Same thing happened with my cilantro. Now I'm a total convert, I repot everything the day I bring it home. You guys are right, those little pots are basically plant jail.
