My balcony lettuce finally grew after I stopped watering it every day

Last month, I was ready to give up on my container garden because my buttercrunch lettuce kept wilting. I was watering the pots every single morning, thinking more was better. After three weeks of sad plants, I read a forum comment that said 'let the top inch dry out.' I tried it, only watering every three days, and the leaves perked up within a week. Has anyone else found they were killing their plants with kindness?

It's amazing how often the best fix is to just step back. I see this with my sourdough starter, where fussing over it ruins the whole batch. Sometimes less is more.

A book I read called it "the law of reversed effort," where trying too hard backfires.

@masondixon is right about that. Sourdough is the perfect example. Just let it do its thing.
