Just realized I spent $85 on a self-watering planter that doesn't work for herbs

Bought this fancy tower thing off Amazon cause I thought it'd save me time. Three weeks later my basil had roots swimming in sludge and the mint just rotted. The water reservoir has no drainage so it just sits there. Had to rip the whole thing apart and drill holes myself. Shoulda just stuck with regular pots. Anyone else get burned by those gimmicky planters?

My friend Jenna dropped $120 on one of those "smart" self-watering pots with a phone app. She followed the instructions to the letter and her rosemary still died within two weeks because the soil stayed too wet. She finally gave up and just uses terracotta pots with saucers now.

My buddy Alex bought one for his basil and same thing happened, @tara_palmer. Back to basic pots now.
