Just found out my balcony tomatoes were starving for calcium

I was reading through an old gardening forum last night and saw someone mention blossom end rot is usually a calcium deficiency, not overwatering like I thought. Turns out my cheap potting mix was basically empty of nutrients after two months. Has anyone else had luck with crushed eggshells or is there a better fix for small containers?

Huh, crushed eggshells are way overhyped for pots. They take forever to break down, like months, so your plants are starving while you wait. Better off just mixing a pinch of garden lime into the water next time.

Crushed eggshells take too long to break down for containers, so I'd try a liquid calcium supplement or dissolve some calcium nitrate in water. Honestly, my first balcony grow flopped the same way before I started adding a balanced fertilizer from week three.
